South Reno boasts suburban settings with easy access to many outdoor activities. These include walking paths, multiple parks, hiking, skiing, as well as biking sports. The area offers both road and mountain biking.

The development of the Double Diamond and Damonte Ranch communities started in the 1990s. Here the residents can enjoy the feel of a planned community. Both communities have restaurants, shopping, and schools within the communities.

The medical community also has expanded into the area, providing nearby services for residents.  Renown South Meadows Medical Center is a small community hospital that offers surgical, medical, urgent care and ER services in a local environment.
